New Google Patent - Sandbox Insights and New Ranking Factors
Google recently made an application for a patent entitled 'Information retrieval based on historical data' that has caused quite a stir among the SEO community. Some see it as an insight into the workings of the much-fabled Sandbox. Others look on it as a source of new Google ranking factors that had not previously been considered.
According to an excellent breakdown analysis of the patent at SEOMOZ.org some of the most critical concepts o the patent include:
- Google's Concept of "Document Inception"
- How Changing Content can Affect Rankings
- Spam Detection & Punishment
It should be pointed out that although this patent goes into depths about the workings of an algorithm it should not be accepted as proof that Google have actually implemented the features.

Become.com Now Open to Public
A while back I signed up as a beta tester for the new shopping search engine www.become.com I did this because to use it you needed to login. Today I received an email from Become telling me that it is now open to the general public i.e. does not require a login.
So if you have not already head over there and try it out www.become.com
